Social Development

FFLV puts much emphasis on empowering women. Usually unwanted from birth, girls are destined for a rough deal. Young girls aren’t given the luxury of an education but are married off at a young age for a dowry and then condemned to a life of rearing children and selflessly serving the husband’s family. This has been common practice for many years in India, but FFLV has been working hard to help break this vicious cycle for Vrindavan’s young girls and women in the villages. Practically this means young girls are kept in school until they are 18, ensuring they have had a good education which will go some way in helping break the poverty mould for their whole family. Through community based vocational training as well as training in health and nutrition, pre and post-natal care and hygiene, women are given a chance and resources to meet their responsibilities as care-providers for the family effectively.  By providing vocational training in areas such as tailoring, carpet weaving  and sustainable organic farming, FFLV helps give women the means to support their families financially too.
